National Honor Society at BRHS

Nationwide

National Honor Society is the primary organization created to reward high school students who exemplify strong character, leadership, service, and scholarship skills among their peers and in their community. National Honor Society was officially established in 1921. Many local and regional groups of similar structure had existed prior to formation of the nationwide institution. The organization grew exponentially, equipped with an emblem, a motto, and a constitution. Today, it is one of America's leading educational groups, with more than one million student participants in all 50 states.

At BRHS

The Broad Run chapter of National Honor Society upholds the national organization's policy of honoring and recognizing high achieving students. Our members are devoted to not only their academics, but also their participation in the community and their ability to help others in need. Broad Run NHS runs a schoolwide tutoring service that extends to our feeder middle and elementary schools, and is active in its community service projects. Finally, Broad Run NHS hosts numerous events throughout the school year to help support charities such as Smashing Walnuts for childhood brain cancer research, and the Walter Reed Memorial Hospital. These events include our annual 5K Color Run, movie nights, Quidditch match, Spring Festival, and Helping Hoops event. In addition, our chapter hosted a party for local children from needy families who couldn't afford Christmas presents.
